Archicad 19 installation cannot be started

I've been running Java 8 update 40 in order to maintain backward compatibility with detail markers originally placed in .pln files started in 17 or earlier.

I installed the update and I thought I was in the same boat as Mskov with the latest 5005 update. But the ArchiCAD splash screen came up after about 5 minutes. And then the clue - a Java prompt. I installed the latest Java and rebooted. Now it works as normal.

For future reference - the "Create Package" option creates an application that will allow you to perform an unattended installation on a CLEAN system.

If you've already installed AC19 and just drag the application into the trash and try to run the "package" again, the installer will not run.

So if you're testing this stuff on a build system - make sure to ALWAYS run the uninstaller first (ArchiCAD 19 > Uninstall.AC > uninstaller).

You can perform an unattended uninstall with this command:

Code:
/Applications/GRAPHISOFT/ArchiCAD\ 19/Uninstall.AC/uninstaller.app/Contents/MacOS/uninstaller -silent

... running that as root with sudo might even disable the authentication prompt (probably required to disable the Codemeter process), but please note - this will also reboot your computer without any confirmation (I learned that the hard way...).

So in conclusion - the "Create Package" option does work, albeit not quite how a Mac admin would expect. It's not a package in the traditional OS X sense and a user still has to be logged in to the system for it to run.

Hi All,
I am trying to install Archicad 17 on several machines in my office some with 10.10.5 & 10.9.5 but am coming across one very simple problem. The installer simply wont launch. Nothing happens. I get a spinning circle for 2 seconds then it stops and nothing happens. I've tried Archicad 19 and it installs the demo no problem but when I try 17 full version nothing.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Nick,

ArchiCAD installers require Java. You will need to install the version of Java that was current at the time that ArchiCAD 17 was released.

Windows:
1. Visit this page: http://www.graphisoft.com/downloads/java.html
2. Download Java 7 update 21 and install it on your system.
3. Install ArchiCAD 17 and any related Add-ons, Goodies and Hotfixes.
4. Next, verify that everything works.
5. Uninstall Java 7 update 21 (using Control Panel > Uninstall a Program or Programs & Features) leaving only the very latest Java package on your computer.
6. Install the latest version of Java from http://www.java.com

Mac OS X (10.6-10.10):
1. Visit this page: http://www.graphisoft.com/downloads/java.html
2. Download Java 7 update 21 and install it on your system.
3. Install ArchiCAD 17 and any related Add-ons, Goodies and Hotfixes.
4. Next, verify that everything works.
5. Uninstall Java 7: https://www.java.com/en/download/help/mac_uninstall_java.xml
6. Install the latest version of Java from http://www.java.com

Best regards,

Archicad 19 installation crashes - Windows 10

Hello everyone,

I seem to be facing the same problem with Archicad 19 Student Version, I open the installer with Administrator Rights it starts extracting the archives to the temp folder, eventually the extractor closes and nothing happens.

I've also tried un-checking the box "Erase temporary files after installation" and changing the directory folder to the desktop and opening the setup files after the extraction process, yet I receive the error of missing files for the installation.

I have a AVELL (local brand) with Windows 10 Home Edition 64bits, Intel Core I5-4210M 2.60GHz, 16gb Ram, Nvidia Geforce 840m. I''ve also tried, updating Java (using the version on Archicad website), running in safe mode.

I couldn't find what pre-installed programs Avell uses that could be causing this problem.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

we purchased archicad 19 for education purpose. We already received the user id and serial number. How can we do silent installation with both information?
In Version 17 we used "setup.exe -silent". For version 19 we tried "setup.exe -silent -userid "xxxx" -serial "xxxxx", but we failed. If we just used setup.exe -silent, installation will be finished. however, when student first click the software icon, system will ask student to input userid and serial number. that is not what we want.

Can someone help, please?

Thanks a lot.

I have never tried this but you may have to create an installation package:

http://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/technotes/setup/archicad-installation/installation-package-creation/

I have a hardware key, not a serial number so I don't know whether the installer asks for the serial number during the install process or not.
But I suppose if it does and you create an installation package, the package will include the serial number information.

Then you can do a silent install of the created package:

.pla, .pln, bpn files - are they all necessary?

HI,
is it necessary to have separate .pla, pln and .bpn files? I understand the .pla contains the library but often is it the same size as the .pln file, the .bpn is often also a similar size. that means for each version I have three files taking up three times the space. This also adds confusion since I am often transferring files to staff members so each time I have to crate a .pla, .pln., .then the .bpn. this is very tedious and takes up a lot of space on the server. also files are slow to open.

Is there a way to just work on .pla files? (I suppose .bpn are necessary).

Thank you,
regards
Luisa

Luisa,
*.pln is a normal ARCHICAD file and is typically all you need to transfer, project specific libraries can be embedded within this file and you would link to other libraries, eg ARCHICAD library etc

*.pla is an archive file, which archives the project and all linked library parts into s single file. I save as pla at project milestones and when significant design changes occur that we may need to go back to.

*.bpn is a backup file, a new version of this is created every time you save and is a copy of the last saved file

All your users would typically need is the *.pln file.

HI Scott,
OK thanks for clarifying. I will just send the .pln file in future. This makes life a little easier!

It could also be that some software pre-installed with Windows by the hardware vendor is blocking access to some folders the ARCHICAD installation wants to access. In your case you should look at programs installed by HP.

Jared wrote a blog post just about this topic:

http://www.shoegnome.com/2016/03/27/archicad-solo-has-limitations-and-thats-great/

There he writes:

Quote:

ARCHICAD 19 Solo has many of the same limitations of the old STAR(T): no rendering, no Teamwork, no linking XRefs. But ARCHICAD 19 Solo can exchange files with ARCHICAD 19. And that changes everything. It means an ARCHICAD Solo user is fully connected to the larger ARCHICAD user community. They are not ring fenced by file type. They can use any template they want. They can get example files from friends. They can exchange their files with the gurus, trainers, and teachers and ask for help.

How long has it been? ver 11. I own 12, 13, and 14, but never used them. I was a archicad+ subscriber that did not see the recession coming. Now I have a computer that will run 14 and some free lance work. Should I install each version in turn, working my way up to 14 or will it be safe to just skip to 14. I'm not really worried about my old files so much as my template. I'll be starting a new project (single family residential). I'm sure I should know this, but it's been a while.

If you don't need 12 or 13 for any other reason, just skip them and install 14. Versions are full releases. Updates are only to a particular version. So, once you do install 14, go to Help > Check for Updates to install the latest available program and library updates before doing any actual work.

Hi,

I have a student who works in the office with me, he has a normal commercial version of AC19 installed as well as AC19 Edu version. He ended up renaming the 2 apps to the above mentioned versions, but that caused an error ( see attachment ).

Is there a way that we can differentiate between the 2 icons?

Thank you for the help.
