You would think the auto updating of other windows would be possible now since they are supposedly updating in the background anyway(Version 19). When I was learning 3D Studio Max back in the early 90's this was standard throughout all of the working windows.

FYI, if you *ARE* testing El Capitan rename Applications\Graphisoft\ArchiCAD 19\Documentation to a different name like "Documentation_X"

This will prevent AC19 from becoming unresponsive while using. This was an issue with Yosemite beta versions as well, but it doesn't appear to be in the GS Help Center any longer.

Install ArchiCad 12 on Windows 8.1 64

Will get v 19 in the future. In the meantime, I am hoping to find a way to install my Commercial version of AC 12 on my new computer which has Core i7 CPU, 16 GB RAM, 2 GB nVidia graphics, Windows 8.1 64 bit. Can only get as far as the Install screen where nothing happens. I have installed WIBU, Java, Quicktime, and Adobe Reader from the DVD. WIBU key has never been in USB during install attempts. I have tried starting installer from setup.exe but no files are decompressed or created.

Any help with compatibility settings, etc greatly appreciated.

Hi all,

We are upgrading and find it hard to choose between 18 or 19.

We have have our computers including

late 2011 iMac,
late 2009 iMac
2009 Mac Mini's.(ssd + 8G ram)

Is that something that support 19 running smoothly? or do we just go for 18?

Many thanks.

I have a late 2009 iMac and 19 runs fine-in fact much faster than 18.

Try uninstalling all versions of Java and then install just the one on the DVD.
You can upgrade Java again once you have installed.

Barry.

Thank you Barry! That worked like a charm. I wish Graphisoft made this recommendation in their info about compatibility of older versions.

Archicad 18 - installation and run error

Hi, I had the same problem with ArchiCAD 19 INT and ArchiCAD 18 SPA in Windows 10 Pro N.

How to solve the GXMedia.dll not found error in Windows 10 Pro N:

1. Download and install Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 10.
2. Profit. That's it. No more steps.

Graphisoft should fix this error. Many Windows in Europe doesn't include the media pack. Or at least, be more verbose about how to fix it.

Only loosely related but a WINDOW question nonetheless....
In 19, I love the new docking (mac) features... but ONE of my projects chose the LAYOUT window as the BASE window and my 2d PLAN window becomes a FLOATING WINDOW... I cannot see a way to make it part of the DOCK...

The PREFER TO OPEN IN A NEW WINDOW is switched off in the EXTRA OPTIONs portion of the Work Environment settings... I've tried a number of buttons here and there, but no luck...

Wouldn't really be the end of the world, but OFTEN a different program will stick windows in between my plan window and the rest of archicad... so no tools or palettes are available... Have to switch to LAYOUT and back to PLAN to get them to show.

This was a project upgraded from 18... I remember reading there might be issues there, but other projects with a similar upgrade path have worked correctly...

You must have undocked the window by mistake and once undocked it will remain like that until you select to "Dock All Windows" from the Window Menu.

I sometimes keep the 3D Window undocked so that I can use Mission Control to jump faster to it.

This is not related to ARCHICAD, but rather to the default privacy settings Microsoft is trying to shove down people's throats with Windows 10:

Excellent! I'll try it next time I'm in that file...

Based on your answer here... UNDOCKING the OBJECT EDITOR window should also be a benefit...

Keep a very close watch on the settings you select on install too, especially with respect to the Internet. MS is once more trying to force you to use its browser by wiping your defaults and resetting to Edge.

Ars Technica also has good article on maintaining privacy in Windows 10.

Besides all other things already mentioned, the OpenGL engine has been rewritten for AC19 so the same model will be running much more smoothly in the 3D Window in AC19 than in AC18.
So AC19 is the better choice.
